Museum Ideas Study Day: A Step-By-Step Guide to Museum Podcasting

Museum Ideas Study Day: A Step-By-Step Guide to Museum Podcasting

In the last few years, podcasting has exploded in growth and creativity throughout the world. Museums can leverage the power of the platform to reach their audiences and communicate in creative, intimate, and meaningful ways.

This workshop will guide participants through every aspect of in-house podcast production, from choosing a topic to editing to marketing the show. Participants who want to outsource production will come away prepared to make an informed decision when hiring a producer.

Award-winning producer Hannah Hethmon will cover the history of podcasting and current global trends, helping museums understand what audiences are consuming and how to create the content the people want.

Participants will get an in-depth walk-through of every step in the process of production, including concept development, equipment selection, interviewing guests, sound engineering, editing, music selection, and more.

Participants will get the opportunity to workshop their podcast ideas, try out podcasting equipment, and learn the basics of editing with Hiindenberg Journalist.

This workshop will serve three main objectives:

● Participants will be able to explore the potential of podcasting for their organization and make an educated decision about its value for furthering their mission.
● Participants will have a strong understanding of the costs, resources, skills, and time needed to produce a podcast in house.
● Participants who decide to initiate a podcast project at their institution will know how to plan, produce, and promote their podcast.

Workshop leader: Hannah Hethmon is an independent producer and consultant specializing in podcasting for museums, history organizations, and cultural nonprofits.
